U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee Announces 2023 U.S. Pan American Team

The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee today announced the 2023 U.S. Pan American Team that will compete at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 from Oct. 20- Nov. 5 in Santiago, Chile. The U.S. roster, totaling 631 athletes, is comprised of 318 women and 313 men, and includes 93 Olympians and 32 Olympic medalists.

It’s an opportunity for all competitors to realize their dreams of representing their country in a premier sporting event. The USOPC and our partner federations extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the organizers at Santiago 2023 and Panam Sports for graciously hosting Team USA and organizing a remarkable event.”
The Pan American and Parapan American Games are the largest multi-sport event in the Americas. The Games are held every four years and precede the Olympic and Paralympic Games by one year. Chile will serve as the host country for the first time in its history.
During the 17-day competition, Team USA will be represented in 43 of 46 sports, excluding 5×5 basketball, baseball and indoor volleyball.
The 2023 U.S. Pan American squad includes 13 Olympic champions. Six members of the gold-medal winning women’s water polo team at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will compete in Santiago: Maggie Steffens, Maddie Musselman, Ashleigh Johnson, Kaleigh Gilchrist, Rachel Fattal and Amanda Longan.
Additional reigning Olympic champions from Tokyo 2020 include Lee Kiefer (fencing), Vincent Hancock (shooting) and Brooks Curry (swimming). Four additional athletes hold Olympic gold medals prior to 2020, including Helen Maroulis and Kyle Snyder (wrestling), and Laura Kraut and McClain Ward (equestrian).
The team also boasts 94 returning Pan American medalists from the 2019 edition in Lima, Peru, including 45 Pan American Games gold medalists.
Team USA athletes will be seeking Olympic Games direct qualification in 10 sports, including 3×3 basketball, breaking, boxing, gymnastics (rhythmic, trampoline), sport climbing, field hockey (men’s and women’s), modern pentathlon, artistic swimming, team handball and water polo (men’s and women’s). In addition, athletes competing in archery, diving, equestrian jumping, table tennis, sailing and shooting can secure Olympic quotas. Athletes in badminton, cycling, taekwondo and triathlon can receive ranking points and be considered for seeding criteria toward qualification, while track and field athletes and swimmers can earn minimum qualification standards for U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
