The 2025 United States Wheelchair Rugby Association National Championships kicked off with intense competition across all three divisions at the Wiregrass Sports Arena in Wesley Chapel, Fla.

The WWAR Generals maintained control with decisive victories over Lakeshore Demolition (63-32), Michigan (59-47) and TIRR Texans (65-42). Their high-powered offense averaged 62.3 points per game, while their stifling defense held opponents to just 40.3 points.

Not to be outdone, Texas Stampede matched the Generals’ perfect record with wins against 360 Heat (50-44), Michigan (51-45) and TIRR Texans (59-40).

The 360 Heat secured third place with a 2-1 record after rebounding from their opening loss to Texas Stampede with victories over TIRR Texans (51-42) and Lakeshore Demolition (66-52).

Michigan sits in fourth place at 1-2, while TIRR Texans and Lakeshore Demolition remain winless after day one.

Division II: BORP High Fives Take Early Lead

Division II action saw the BORP High Fives emerge as the team to beat, going 3-0 with wins over WASA Lightning (55-47), WWAR Warriors (54-51) and Boise Bombers (51-45).

The close victory over the Warriors demonstrated BORP’s resilience, and that three-point win could prove crucial in the final standings.

WWAR Warriors and WASA Lightning both finished the day at 2-1, setting up the battle for second place. The Warriors defeated DASA Bombers (47-38) and MedStar NRH United (57-48), while the Lightning rebounded from their opening loss to beat MedStar United (55-51) and Boise Bombers (48-45).

Boise Bombers and DASA Bombers both stand at 1-2, while MedStar NRH United is still searching for its first win after going 0-3.

Division III: Three-Way Tie At The Top

Division III featured the most balanced competition of the day, with Portland Pounders, Seattle Slam and Magee Eagles all posting perfect 2-0 records.

Portland Pounders earned narrow victories over Oscar Mike Militia (52-48) and Carolina Crash (61-45). Seattle Slam looked impressive in wins against Carolina Crash (52-38) and Shepherd Smash (56-48), while the Magee Eagles defeated Oscar Mike Militia (45-39) and squeaked past Shepherd Smash (52-47).

Division III is proving to be incredibly competitive, with three undefeated teams making upcoming matchups critical in determining who advances to the championship round.
