Team USA Kicks Off 2024 Paralympics with Silver Sweep
The Paralympic flame is lit, and Team USA is already making waves! After an electrifying opening ceremony, our athletes hit the ground running, snagging three silver medals on day one. Here’s the lowdown on how our American heroes fared:
Rugby Rumble:
Team USA started strong with a nail-biting 51-48 win over Canada. Bonus: Sarah Adam made history as the first woman on our Paralympic rugby squad!
Hoops Heroes:
Our wheelchair basketball boys dominated Spain 66-56, with Jake Williams dropping a cool 22 points. Next up: Netherlands on Saturday!
Pool Powerhouses:
• Ellie Marks clinched America’s first medal, taking silver in the women’s S6 50M freestyle with a blazing 32.90 seconds.
• Christie Raleigh-Crossley smashed a world record in qualifiers and nabbed silver in the women’s S10 50M freestyle finals.
• First-timer Grace Nuhfer snagged silver in the women’s S13 100M Butterfly, just a hair behind the gold.
Table Tennis Tussle:
Tahl Leibovitz and Ian Seidenfeld fought hard but fell to China in doubles. Don’t worry, folks – they’re gearing up for singles action this Sunday!
Cycling Crusaders:
Samantha Bosco, Shawn Morelli, Branden Walton, and Spencer Seggebruch gave it their all in track cycling. While they missed the finals this time, stay tuned for more pedal-to-the-metal action!
Badminton Battle:
Mixed results for our shuttlecock stars. Miles Krajewski and Jayci Simon aced their doubles match but faced tough singles competition. They’re back at it Friday.
