Los Angeles Unveils Venue Plan for 2028 Paralympic Games
Los Angeles will host the Paralympic Games for the first time in its history in 2028, and organizers have announced an updated venue plan following approval from the International Paralympic Committee Governing Board.
The LA28 Paralympic venue plan strategically matches each sport with optimal facilities while delivering an exceptional experience for fans worldwide. All competition venues are located within a 35-mile radius, maximizing premier facilities in the Los Angeles area while reducing travel times for athletes.
“The Paralympic Games showcases the highest level of athleticism, skill and endurance, and it is important for LA28 to deliver a plan that not only elevates Paralympic sport, but brings it to the next level,” said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover. “The Paralympic venue plan ensures that Los Angeles’ first-ever Paralympic Games will take place in incredible existing stadiums and arenas across the region while creating the best possible experience for athletes and fans across the 560 events with accessibility top of mind.”
For the first time since Rio 2016, Paralympians across every sport will be housed together at the Olympic and Paralympic Village on UCLA’s campus.
Downtown Los Angeles Hub
The Convention Center in downtown Los Angeles will serve as a multi-sport complex featuring boccia, para judo, para table tennis, para taekwondo and wheelchair fencing. The facility will create a vibrant atmosphere where excitement from one competition flows into the next.
The nearby Crypto.com Arena will host wheelchair basketball, while the Peacock Theater will showcase goalball in an acoustically optimized setting.
Historic Venues
The iconic LA Memorial Coliseum will host para athletics and the Paralympic closing ceremony on Aug. 27, 2028. The USC Sports Center will feature wheelchair rugby and para badminton.
Venice Beach will host para triathlon and serve as the starting point for the para athletics marathon.
Regional Venues
Carson will stage multiple events within its sports complex, including para archery at the Fields, wheelchair tennis at the Tennis Center and para cycling track at the Velodrome.
Long Beach will debut para climbing alongside para swimming at the Convention Center Lot, both framed by ocean views. The Convention Center will house shooting para sport in a purpose-built indoor range, while the Arena will stage sitting volleyball.
A temporary arena at Alamitos Beach will host blind football, and Marine Stadium will feature para rowing and para canoe sprint events.
Para equestrian competition will take place at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia.
Record-Breaking Games
The 2028 Paralympic Games will award the most medals in history and feature the most gender-balanced athlete quota, with 45% women across 22 sports. Six more sports than the previous Games will achieve full gender parity, bringing the total to a record 17 sports.
Overall, 4,400 Paralympians will compete across 22 sports, plus 80 additional athletes in para climbing, which was added to the program in June 2024.
The Paralympic Games will take place Aug. 15-27, 2028. Venues for para powerlifting and para cycling road, along with the marathon course, will be announced later.
