LA28 Announces Venues for Olympic and Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies
LA28 announced today that the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Stadium in Inglewood will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, marking a historic milestone for both venues.
The Paralympic Opening Ceremony will take place at the Stadium in Inglewood on August 15, 2028, while the Paralympic Closing Ceremony will be held at the LA Memorial Coliseum on August 27, making it the first venue in Olympic history to host three Games.

“The venues selected for the 2028 Opening and Closing Ceremonies will highlight Los Angeles’s rich sporting history and cutting-edge future, showcasing the very best that LA has to offer on the world stage,” said LA28 Chairperson and President Casey Wasserman. “These two extraordinary venues will create an unforgettable experience, welcoming fans from across the globe to an Olympic and Paralympic Games like never before and concluding what will go down as one of the most incredible Games in history.”
The Coliseum, which previously hosted Olympic events in 1932 and 1984, will share the Olympic Opening Ceremony with the Stadium in Inglewood on July 14, 2028, creating an unprecedented dual-venue celebration. The Olympic Closing Ceremony will take place exclusively at the Coliseum on July 30.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass emphasized the historical significance: “Today’s announcement marks a proud milestone as the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will become the first venue in history to host three Olympic Games. For over a century, the Coliseum has been a landmark host to some of the most iconic moments in all of sports history.”
The Stadium in Inglewood, one of the world’s most modern sporting venues, will make its Olympic and Paralympic debut in 2028. “Our stadium is one of the most impressive in the world and will deliver an incredible experience for thousands of in-person fans, with millions more watching from home,” said Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts, Jr.
The selection of these venues aligns with LA28’s competition schedule, which features Athletics in the first week and Swimming in the second. Both ceremony venues will showcase elements of Los Angeles’ diverse culture.
For the Paralympic Games, the Stadium in Inglewood will provide a state-of-the-art setting for the Opening Ceremony, highlighting the scale and significance of LA’s first Paralympic Games. The Coliseum will host the Paralympic Closing Ceremony, writing a new chapter in Paralympic history.
“Sports has the power to inspire and unite people of all backgrounds, generations, and experiences, and the Olympic and Paralympic Games serve as a model for how this unparalleled platform of sport can bridge the world,” said E. Stanley Kroenke, Los Angeles Rams Owner/Chairman.
The LA28 Games mark Los Angeles’ third time hosting the Olympics and first time hosting the Paralympics. Additional details about the ceremonies will be announced at a later date, with the updated Paralympic venue plan pending approval by the International Paralympic Committee Governing Board.
