LA28 to begin accepting Games-time volunteer applications mid-July
The LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games will open its Games-time volunteer application and portal on July 14 – exactly two years ahead of the opening ceremony in Los Angeles – allowing fans worldwide to apply to become part of the LA28 Volunteer Crew.
“Volunteers are the backbone of the Games. Their passion and energy will help define LA28 for athletes, fans and communities across the region,” says LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover. “As fans fill the seats and athletes take the global stage, behind every event, every venue and every moment is the LA28 Volunteer Crew.”
LA28’s Volunteer Crew will comprise about 60,000 people, serving a crucial need during both the Olympic and Paralympic volunteer periods. The Olympic volunteer period will run from March to August 2028; the Paralympic volunteer period extends from August to September 2028. Games-time volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 10 shifts within one period. During those shifts, volunteers will cover a wide range of duties, from greeting and guiding spectators to more specialized roles.
While most volunteers will be stationed in the Greater Los Angeles area, there will be also be a need for team members in other cities such as Nashville, Tenn., New York City, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Columbus, Ohio, San José, Calif., and San Diego. Games-time applicants will have an option to choose a preferred location, as well a indicate special skills that might qualify them for specialized roles.
LA28, in conjunction with Delta Air Lines, launched the volunteer program in 2025 and has since hosted more than 25 community volunteer events, involving beach, street and trail cleanups, as well as habitat restoration. As efforts ramp up, Games-time volunteers can learn more at the LA28 Volunteer page. For those who have previously expressed interest in volunteering for LA28, an email with next steps should be forthcoming. More info on the Volunteer Crew program is coming in the weeks ahead, the organizers say.
