The streets of New York City were packed with over 27,000 athletes at the 2024 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon. The massive field made for an incredibly energetic atmosphere as athletes from around the world took on the 13.1-mile course.

In the women’s wheelchair division, Susannah Scaroni continued her dominance with her third straight and fourth overall NYC Half title. Her blistering time of 53:50 was the third-fastest in event history as she defeated five-time TCS New York City Marathon winner Tatyana McFadden by nearly five minutes.

“We had the most amazing weather today,” Scaroni said. “At the end of this race, I thought about how much I love the crowd and how much energy I get from people cheering us on in New York. What a great experience it is to be outside on a perfect day. It brings me a lot of joy.”

Newcomer, 46-year-old Dutch athlete Geert Schipper captured the men’s wheelchair crown in 48:43. Americans Evan Correll and Johnboy Smith of Great Britain rounded out the podium.

“I didn’t expect that I would have a chance to win, but I’m now kind of emotional in a way. I’m so new to this sport, so it’s great to see that a guy at 46 can win in this strong field.”

This year’s half marathon’s professional athlete field was full with elite talent, including 9 Olympians, 6 Paralympians, and numerous other top competitors vying for a spot at the Paris 2024 Games later this summer.
