The professional wheelchair fields for the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon on November 5 are stacked with talent, including defending champions Susannah Scaroni and Marcel Hug.

Scaroni, a two-time Paralympic medalist, will look to defend her title from 2022 and win her first Abbott World Marathon Major race of 2023. The American Paralympian set the current NYC Marathon course record of 1:42:43 last year.

However, Scaroni will face fierce competition from four-time NYC Marathon champion Tatyana McFadden, eight-time Paralympic medalist Manuela Schär, and 2021 NYC Marathon winner Madison de Rozario.

On the men’s side, Hug seeks a record-breaking sixth NYC Marathon title after smashing the course record last year in 1:25:26. The 12-time Paralympic medalist from Switzerland will contend with fellow former champions Daniel Romanchuk and David Weir.

Romanchuk became the youngest ever NYC Marathon men’s wheelchair winner in 2018 at just 20 years old. This year, he’ll go for his third title. Meanwhile, British legend Weir eyes his second NYC Marathon crown after prevailing in 2010.

The wheelchair races also double as the first 2024 Paralympic Marathon trials for Team USA. The top two American finishers will qualify for Paris 2024.

In all, the fields feature 26 Paralympians and eight previous NYC Marathon champions. From Scaroni and Hug looking to defend their titles to athletes racing for Paris 2024 spots, the 2023 NYC Marathon wheelchair events are a must-watch.
