This year’s Wheels UP! Photo contest third-place winner

Determined, fun-loving and strong are the words that best describe Adrienne Terrel, our Wheels UP! Photo Contest third-place winner.

The 42-year-old Arizona resident spends much of her time enjoying life with her husband and two children. Terrel was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) when she was 20-years-old. Her MS has progressed from a visibly clumsy walk to having to rely on a power chair outside her home, making for a slightly more challenged daily routine.

But for Terrel, those three-word descriptors have come to symbolize her core values, personality and continued drive in life.

“This disease has given me much more than it has taken from me,” said Terrell. “I’ve gained an incredibly fun and supportive community of other people that are also warriors in their own battles. I do believe a cure is possible and I’m very hopeful for the future of MS research.”

Terrell’s winning photo was taken by her husband, Richard, during a family getaway to Payson, Ariz., and shows her overlooking the great expanse of the Mogollon Rim.

“It was very breezy at this elevation and the air smelled so clean and fresh,” recalls Terrell. “We found the perfect spot to stop and roam the rim. I’m always challenging the capabilities of my Whill [power chair] in the rocky and hilly terrain under the shade of the pine trees.”
