Jessica Long Wins Record 36th World Title, Leads Team USA on Day 3 in Manchester

American para swimmer Jessica Long won her 36th career world title on Wednesday, capturing gold in the women’s 100m butterfly S8 at the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships in Manchester.

The 29-year-old defended her title in the event, touching the wall in 1:12.70 to beat China’s Lu Weiyuan by nearly a full second.
With 53 career medals, Long continues to add to her legacy as one of the greatest para swimmers of all time.

Long’s gold medal headlined a four-medal night for the U.S., which also included bronze finishes by Olivia Chambers, Noah Jaffe, and Elizabeth Marks. After three days of competition, Team USA has totaled 12 medals.

Long remains focused on finishing her illustrious career strong, with her sights set on the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. At age 36, she shows no signs of slowing down as she continues to inspire fans and young athletes everywhere.
